My Afternoons With Marguerite

In a small town tucked away in rural Charente, a chance meeting in a park between a
handyman, Germain (Gerard Depardieu) and the sharply intelligent 95-year-old
Margueritte (Gisèle Casadesus) leads to a tender friendship. He has had an unhappy
life (depicted in disturbing flashbacks) and is surrounded by a group of oddballs. She
takes on the job of educating him through introducing him reading. Starting with
Camus’ La Peste, her influence transforms his life and the lives of those around him.
Roles then touchingly start to reverse as he learns to read to her when her sight begins
to fail.
