Everything changes for 15-year-old Mia when her mum brings home a new boyfriend. This is a powerful drama set on a council estate with a remarkable and heartfelt central performance by newcomer Katie Jarvis as Mia. As well as having outstanding performances it is beautifully photographed by cinematographer Robbie Ryan, who intersperses the bleak interiors of small urban flats with wide open landscapes of the nearby countryside. Andrea Arnold’s second feature won the Jury prize at Cannes and a Bafta for Outstanding British Film.
