In September 1939 the Soviets captured 10,000 Polish officers most of whom had strong anti-communist views. By the following spring they had all been executed by the NKVD. Wajda recounts this terrifying piece of history from the viewpoint of the wives, mothers and daughters left behind in Poland, desperate to know the truth and having to wait decades before it was revealed.
