Gianni is a middle aged unemployed man living in Rome and almost totally under the thumb of his overpowering and forceful mother. On the annual holiday of Ferragosto in August Gianni finds most people have deserted the city for the countryside and his only company is his mother and her elderly female friends. But Gianni finds a way to turn this situation to his benefit.
