Norwegian Wood

Based on the 1987 novel by Harulki Murakami the visual aspects of this film are
stunning and the soundtrack will be a nostalgic treat for many. Whilst on a plane
Watanabe Tohru is stimulated to reflect on his university days in the 1960s by hearing
the Beatles song Norwegian Wood. It was a time of student action but his main
memories centre on the suicide of his friend Kizuki and Watanabe’s subsequent
involvement with Kizuki’s girlfriend, Naoko. She is mentally disturbed, their
relationship founders and Watanabe moves on to a more stable situation with
Nagasawa, a promiscuous fellow student and subsequently to the attractive clever
Midori. An intriguing film about love, death, freedom and growing up.
