Somewhat reluctantly, city-boy Antoine is drawn back into the family business in Provence. His father, a travelling grocer, has had a heart-attack, and Antoine appears to have a built-in sneer when he drives up in the van, and he tends to alienate his customers even though they are providing him with his living. They have been used to the more easy-going ways of his father, especially when it comes to payment. His girl-friend tries give him lessons in the human touch, and has some success, but slowly.
