Mussolini met his first wife, Ida Dalser, in 1907 when he was struggling to run a newspaper and she was a lady of substance. She becomes his lover, bears his child and nearly bankrupts herself in supporting him. It is only because of her generosity that he can start the Fascist movement. Mussolini fights in World War I, finds another lover, and ditches Ida.
